Hello all!

It has definitely been a minute. With the holidays, after holiday exhaustion, and of course the illness, it's been hard to keep up.  However it is New Years Eve and I'd love for all you hair lovers and care takers alike to make an oath:

Hair,  I promise to take good care of you!  I promise to listen to my stylist when they say I need a trim no later than 12 weeks, and that coloring my own hair can only result in negative things.  I promise to use the products that are meant for my hair, and not to over buy or under use the things I have.  Hair I promise to you, oh the framer of my face, the thing that makes my eyes pop and skin glow, to really take care of you the best way I know how.  I won't over wash, flat iron, curl, or stick you up in a funky ponytail. I love you and I will cherish you.  I promise to do all the research I can when trying something new, or if a silly commercial taunts my imagination.  My New Years resolution is to treat you like I want you to treat me.

It is no wonder that when we mistreat our hair, by not getting it trimmed, over heating, and under-using, that our hair doesn't do what we would like.  Celebrities have teams of professionals work on them for photo shoots and movies. And 100% they do not use boxed color, do not be fooled!

So, Happy New Year! And happy hair year!

Hello everyone!!!

As it gets closer to the holidays I hear and over hear lots of talk about holiday hair.  This is hair that is a bit different than your normal everyday hair, maybe a bit of a curl or wave, or extra straight and shiny.  Whatever your holiday hair desire there are just a couple of things I suggest you have.

1. Great style and hold products: Really, no matter the day or time of year, if you want your hair to do much of anything you need a styling and hold product.  My favorites are Bumble styling lotion, thickening hairspray, and styling creme. This ensures that your style will hold and keep through the day, pictures, through dancing and what not. These products are also great for heat protection and shine.
2. The right tools:
a.Using a 1" curling iron for a wavy look is essential. take a half inch section of hair and actually manually wrap the hair around the iron. This gives you a very pretty, soft wave instead of a prom curl.
b. flat irons are great for both, depending how hot tool savvy you are. But for a smooth look it's all about taking your time! Please, I do not mean minutes per section, I mean sectioning out your hair, combing the section, and going through each section with care.
c. My personal fav!! hot rollers! Now that they come larger you can't beat the soft body and volume these babys give ya! And they are very inexpensive and quick for you time conscious!
3. Lets talk hairspray!! Ladies and Gentlemen please put your cans of aqua net, final net, and whatever other spray that gives your hair that hard flaky finish down!!! Hair sprays like Bumbles  Spray de mode and does it all are perfect for holiday looks! they give some shine, great hold with memory and still allow your hair to move.....like it's suppose to, and do not flake. Please follow the directions, holding it only 1/2" away will only lead to you starting over from the shampoo no matter the spray.
4. Need extra shine?  HEMP SPRAY by Alterna is my favorite.  It is perfectly light and gives such a beautiful shine. Not to mention the pleasant scent.  Though light you can spray too much.  Stay away from the root and remember you can always add more, so start small.
hint: when you concentrate your shine spray at the curve of your head it gives your hair an enhanced natural shine.

Happy styling, and please don't be shy! if there are any questions about styling, holiday hair etc. please let me know!

Product distribution!  Over the years I have seen and heard so many say that they just can't do their hair the same way once they leave the salon. When I ask about their routine it usually is due to lack of product distribution. So....
1. Hair should always be about 70% dry before applying product, when hair is too wet the product either slips off with excess water or evaporates with it when drying.
2. Apply evenly and liberally. Three spritzes won't cover it.  Really get in there, by all means don't go in the other direction and use too much, but you spent the money for it to work right?  So, get it in there!!
3. Comb it through!!! this helps the product really distribute everywhere instead of settling in spots.
4. Men!! patting your hair with the product and/or concentrating it in one area isn't going to cut it!  lather product through out hair before worrying about styling it.  Your hair should be 90% to 100% dry for pomades and waxes. Directions might tell you differently, in my professional experience using pomades and waxes on dry hair is when you get the best results without having to use so much product at one time or having to go back to apply more.
5.The product needs to get in the hair to work appropriately! So... take that fortune out of the cabinet and use it like it needs to be used!

First and foremost, make sure you and your stylist have decided on the right product for your hair and styling needs, not having the right product can also be the culprit.  Don't settle for another product because they don't have it in stock, ask when the next order comes in, if another location has it, or research somewhere easily accessible that does.  This IS your money and your hair... after all.

Happy Styling

I myself have been trying to grow my hair, as many of you are! Even as a stylist with a plethora of amazing products have been finding it hard not to have to restyle my hair everyday.  Time, skill, need, laziness (me), whatever your excuse, styling everyday is not always an option.  But, waking up in the morning with knots and "rattines" makes things, oooooh dare I say... TANGLEY! Again, like many others I am growing my hair to be "long and luxurious" so, who wants to opt for an always easy ponytail, bun thingy!!!

Remedy: silk cap.  sound familiar?  you can find them at your local CVS or beauty supply for under $3. Not the most attractive night routine, however, sleeping with a silk/satin cap has transformed my hair.  I barely need to brush it in the a.m. let alone style it....again....  Please give it a try! you won't regret!
